With the Special menu you can eject partitions, disks, and servers and easily mount disks again after you have ejected them.
To eject a internal or external disk, a CD, a DVD, an iPod, or a connected server, display the Special menu and choose Eject from the disk’s submenu. If you are ejecting a disk with more than one partition, a dialog will ask you whether to eject all the volumes or just one.
To quickly eject an internal or unpartitioned disk or a server, hold down the Option or Control key and select the disk or server in the Special menu.
To quickly eject a disk with more than one partition, hold down the Option key and select any of its partitions in the Special menu.
To quickly eject just one partition, hold down the Control key and select the partition in the Special menu.
Select the inactive disk or partition in the Special menu.
If you do not see ejected disks in the Special menu, you may need to show inactive disks. Open the Application Wizard pane in System Preferences, click Menus, and click the Customize Menus button. In the dialog that appears, click Special, make sure that you have added the Volumes item to the menu, and select the ”Inactive disks” checkbox.
